AI Automation in Greece: Costs, Use Cases, and How to Choose an Agency (2026)
Dabster Labs · Last updated 27 August 2026
AI automation for a Greek SME means software that handles repeat work without a person: answering the phone, sorting e-mail, sending quotes and reminders, updating the CRM. Automation builds start at EUR 2,500 fixed price, a Greek speaking AI receptionist from EUR 419 per month. The deciding factor is how well the system speaks Greek on the phone.
Where Greek businesses stand
Only 8.9% of Greek enterprises with 10 or more employees used AI in 2025. Cyprus is at 9.3%, the EU average is 20%, and Denmark leads at 42% (Dabster Labs, The State of SMB Automation in Cyprus and Greece 2026, compiled from Eurostat 2025).
The gap is not a people problem. Greek employees use AI personally far more than their companies do. The person at the front desk already drafts replies with a chatbot on their own phone, while the business still copies customer details into three systems by hand. What is missing is someone to turn that interest into a process that runs every day. In a market where fewer than one in ten companies use AI, the first office in town that answers every call gets noticed.
Use cases that work in Greece today
What we build most often for Greek and Cypriot businesses. Each replaces a task, not a job.
- Greek speaking AI receptionist. Answers every call in Greek and English, books the appointment into the calendar, notifies the team instantly.
- E-mail and WhatsApp triage. Sorts incoming messages by type, drafts a reply for approval, routes the rest to the right person.
- Quotes. A website or e-mail request becomes a priced quote in your template, logged in the CRM, ready to check and send.
- Invoicing reminders. Polite reminders in Greek for unpaid invoices, stopping the moment the invoice is paid.
- Reporting. Sales, cash and open enquiries on one weekly page instead of five open systems.
- Appointment reminders for clinics and therapy centres. A reminder the day before, the confirmation captured, freed slots flagged to the front desk.
- Hotels and accommodation on the islands. Availability enquiries, pre-arrival questions and check-in instructions in Greek and English at any hour.
DROSOS Clinic in Agia Marina, Kos, the osteopathy and physiopathy centre of holistic therapist Stamatis Drosos, was the first centre on the island with an AI receptionist on its line. In the first three weeks the receptionist, Anna, answered all 41 calls, none missed, more than half outside opening hours. Read the DROSOS Clinic case study.

Greek language: the part most tools get wrong
Most AI voice products were built for English and had Greek added later. Test these five things before you buy.
- Accents and stress. Greek changes meaning with the stressed syllable. A voice that stresses the wrong one sounds foreign, and callers hang up. Transcription matters as much: a street name said quickly has to come through correctly.
- Names. The agent has to catch Greek surnames, spell them back and write them with the right ending for a man or a woman.
- Cypriot and regional Greek. A caller from Limassol, Crete or Thessaloniki does not speak textbook Greek. A system trained on Athens Greek alone keeps asking them to repeat.
- Switching to English mid call. In Kos in August a call often starts in Greek and continues in English. The agent has to follow without being told.
- Formal plural address. Greek business calls use the polite plural. A receptionist that addresses an older patient in the singular sounds rude.
We tune every agent on real calls from the client’s line. Our demo line is a Greek speaking AI receptionist; test all five points on it.
Law in Greece
EU AI Act, Article 50. Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 has been in force since 1 August 2024. The transparency duties of Article 50 apply from 2 August 2026: a person must be told they are talking to an AI unless it is obvious. A late 2025 Commission proposal to postpone parts of the timeline is only proposed, not law. Every agent we deliver introduces itself as AI in its first sentence. More in our guide to Article 50.
GDPR. The caller must be told who processes their data and why. Collect only what the process needs and keep it for a limited time; we propose 30 days for any transcript.
Call recording. Greece is strict. Under Penal Code Article 370A, as amended by Law 5002/2022 Article 10, recording your own telephone conversation without the express consent of the other party is a felony punishable with imprisonment of up to 10 years, with no self recording exception. Law 3471/2006 Article 4 paragraph 3 requires the consent of both parties, while the Hellenic DPA (ΑΠΔΠΧ) treats prior information as sufficient, a contradiction no court has yet resolved. The DPA has ruled that “quality of service” and “security of transactions” are not acceptable purposes for recording; the only accepted purpose is proof of the communication, and the notice must say calls are always recorded, not that they “may be” (decision 65/2010).
The fines are real: EUR 30,000 to ΕΚΑΒ, the 166 line (decision 23/2024), and EUR 20,000 to NN Hellas plus EUR 2,000 to a dental call centre for not providing recordings to the data subject under GDPR Article 15 (decision 32/2025).
Our default: AI receptionists we deliver in Greece run with recording off unless the client has a lawful purpose. The booking and the team notification do not need the audio.
How to choose an agency in Greece
Six questions, in order of how much money they save you.
- Is the price fixed? Ask for a written fixed price for the build and a monthly figure for running it. Day rates grow with the scope.
- Who runs it after go-live? An automation nobody monitors breaks the first time an API changes. Ask who watches it and how fast they fix it.
- Where is it hosted? Data of Greek customers should stay on EU servers. Ask for the hosting country of every component, including the voice platform.
- Can I speak to a reference? A live client in Greece or Cyprus who will take your call beats any slide deck.
- Can I call a Greek phone demo right now? If there is no number to call today, the agency has not solved Greek yet. Call it, use your own accent, switch to English mid sentence, give a difficult surname.
- What are the exit terms? You should own the workflows, export your data and leave with short notice. If leaving means losing everything, you are renting, not buying.
Working with a Cyprus agency from Greece
Nicosia rather than Athens? The distance does not show up in the work.
- Same language. Calls, documents and the agent itself in Greek, with English where you need it.
- Same EU rules. GDPR and the AI Act are identical in both countries.
- Remote delivery. Audits on video calls, builds on EU hosted n8n you have access to, the receptionist tested on your own line before go-live. Same time zone.
- Invoices in EUR from an EU company. No currency conversion, no import paperwork.
- Greek clients already. We serve Greek clients such as DROSOS Clinic on Kos, at the prices above.
Frequently asked questions
How much does AI automation cost in Greece?
Audit from EUR 500 (credited to the build), fixed price build from EUR 2,500, management from EUR 699 per month. A Greek speaking AI receptionist from EUR 419 per month plus implementation from EUR 990.
Does the AI receptionist really speak Greek well?
It speaks Greek and English, follows a switch between them mid call, uses the polite plural and confirms names. Test it with your own accent on the demo line.
Is an AI receptionist legal in Greece?
Yes, provided the caller is told at the start that they are talking to an AI (Article 50 of the EU AI Act from 2 August 2026), data is handled under GDPR, and calls are not recorded without a lawful purpose and the consent Greek law requires.
Do I have to record the calls?
No. Our agents in Greece run with recording off by default. It is switched on only where the client has a lawful purpose, for example the incoming appointment line of an outpatient clinic, where the Hellenic DPA explicitly allows it.
Which Greek businesses get the most from this?
Any business that loses calls: therapy centres, clinics, accountants, hotels and rooms on the islands, and any trade where a missed call is a lost job.
Call our demo line on +357 22 152092, the AI answers, and speak to it in Greek. Then tell us about your process on the contact page and we will send a fixed quote.
