Greek Speaking AI for Business: Voice Agents and Chatbots That Actually Handle Greek (2026)
Dabster Labs · Last updated 31 August 2026
In 2026, Greek speaking AI is no longer a demo. Businesses in Greece and Cyprus run voice agents that answer the phone in Greek and English, alongside website and WhatsApp chatbots that hold a real conversation. What separates working Greek from demo Greek: names, accents, dialects, the formal plural, and switching languages mid call without falling apart.
We are Dabster Labs, an AI automation agency in Nicosia. Two founders, both engineers, design, build and run every project ourselves, and Greek speaking voice agents are our main product. According to our research, The State of SMB Automation in Cyprus and Greece 2026 (compiled from Eurostat 2025), only 9.3% of Cypriot and 8.9% of Greek enterprises with 10 or more employees used AI in 2025, against an EU average of 20%. One reason is simple: most owners have only ever heard AI speak bad Greek.
Why Greek is hard for AI
Everything in this section comes from our own experience building and testing Greek voice agents. In our experience, many general purpose tools treat Greek as an afterthought. The voice sounds fine in a one sentence demo, then accents slip, names get mangled and the register drifts. Five things break first.
- Greek names and surnames. An agent that books appointments must catch a surname like Παπαχριστοδούλου or Χατζηιωάννου on the first pass, repeat it back correctly and spell it on request. If it writes noise into your calendar, your team ends up calling everyone back, which defeats the point.
- Cypriot Greek and island dialects. A caller from Limassol or a Dodecanese village does not speak textbook Athens Greek. Pronunciation shifts, everyday vocabulary shifts, and a system trained only on standard Greek starts guessing. Any agent serving Cyprus or the islands has to be tested with those callers, not with a newsreader voice.
- The formal plural. Greek business calls run on the πληθυντικός ευγενείας. An agent that opens formally and drops into the singular two sentences later sounds rude, and callers notice immediately.
- Institutional vocabulary. A therapy centre’s agent must recognise ΕΟΠΥΥ instantly and answer the coverage question the caller is actually asking. Terms like ΑΦΜ or ταμείο are everyday words in Greek business calls, not edge cases.
- Mixed language. Real callers mix Greek and English inside one sentence, and some switch to English entirely halfway through. A working agent follows the caller instead of forcing a language menu.
A 10 minute test you can run on any vendor
Before you sign anything, run this on the live system, not on a recorded demo. It is the same script we recommend in our buyer guide to AI companies in Greece and Cyprus, and it takes about ten minutes.
- Give it a difficult surname. Book a test appointment under a long Greek surname. Ask the agent to repeat it and to spell it. Check what actually lands in the calendar.
- Put a dialect speaker on the line. Have a Cypriot colleague, or someone from the islands, make the same call in their normal speech. Watch where the agent starts guessing.
- Switch languages mid call. Start in Greek, switch to English in the middle of a sentence, then go back. The agent should follow without restarting the conversation.
- Dictate a phone number. Give your mobile number the way Greeks actually say it, in groups, and ask the agent to read it back digit by digit.
- Interrupt it. Talk over the agent mid sentence. A production system stops, listens and answers the new question. A demo system finishes its paragraph.
If a vendor cannot give you a live line for this test, that tells you enough on its own.
What a working Greek voice agent looks like in production
DROSOS Clinic in Agia Marina, Kos, a therapy centre for osteopathy and physiopathy founded by holistic therapist Stamatis Drosos, is the first centre in Kos with an AI receptionist on its own line. The agent, Anna, answers in Greek, handles Greek names and island callers, and introduces herself as an AI assistant in her first sentence, as the EU AI Act’s transparency rules expect.
In the first three weeks Anna answered all 41 calls, none missed, and more than half came outside opening hours, while the therapists were with clients or the centre was closed. Those are exactly the calls a small business loses. The full numbers and setup are in the DROSOS Clinic case study.
Serving Greece from Cyprus
We work with clients in Greece from our base in Nicosia, and in practice the border does not exist. Same language, same EU legal framework: GDPR and the EU AI Act apply identically in both countries. The agent itself runs on EU servers and is deployed remotely. Your side of the setup is call forwarding, calendar access and a list of the questions your callers actually ask. The Kos deployment was delivered this way, and our wider work in Greece is covered in AI automation in Greece: costs, use cases, agency.
Invoicing is straightforward too. We invoice in euro, and for a business client in Greece the invoice from a Cyprus company falls under the reverse charge mechanism for intra-Community B2B services: no Cypriot VAT is charged, your business self-accounts Greek VAT and deducts it in the same return. For a business with full deduction rights the net extra burden is zero. Confirm your own case with your accountant.
Try it yourself
You do not have to take any of this on trust. Call our own AI line on +357 22 152092 and run the ten minute test from this article on us, in Greek or English. Or do it the other way around: ask on our site and the AI calls you back. No other company on our list offers an open demo in both directions.

Frequently asked questions
Does it handle Cypriot Greek?
Yes. We are a Cypriot company, so Cypriot callers are our daily reality, not an edge case, and we test every agent with them before it goes live. Island dialects get the same treatment, which is how Anna handles callers on Kos.
Can it switch to English mid call?
Yes, in both directions. A caller can start in Greek, switch to English halfway through, and switch back, and the agent follows without restarting or losing the booking details it has already collected.
What about call recording in Greece?
Handle this carefully. Under Greek Penal Code article 370A, as amended by law 5002/2022, recording your own phone conversation without the express consent of the other party is a felony punishable with up to 10 years of imprisonment. The Greek data protection authority accepts recording only for proof of the communication, and it explicitly allows recording on the incoming appointment lines of outpatient clinic reception. Our default in Greece is recording off unless the client has a lawful purpose, and the agent always says it is AI in its first sentence.
How fast can we go live?
The build follows a fixed sequence: an audit call, the agent scripted in your voice, calendar and notification wiring, then test calls with your team until you approve them. After that, going live is a matter of forwarding your number. The limiting factor is usually your availability for test calls, not the technology.
Which sectors do you work with?
Organisations where missed calls cost real money: clinics and therapy centres, hotels and accommodation, accounting, insurance and fiduciary offices, schools and training centres, municipalities and associations, and real estate agencies.
